I'm Paulette, and I'm from a small town in Ohio. I went to the Ohio State University for undergrad and graduated with a B.S. in Molecular Genetics. I played trumpet in the Ohio State University Marching Band, a well-known and difficult-to-get-into tryout band in the Big Ten. My husband, Kevin, and I met at OSU and were in band together.
Kevin and I were married on August 7, 2004, in my hometown.
I went back to grad school and graduated with an M.S. in Cell & Developmental Biology in 2006 from the University of Michigan. I went to school at an arch rival university, but of course I still cheer for Ohio State. Kevin and I are huge football fans.
After being a lab rat for a few years, I decided to change career paths and started working for Google in December 2006 when they opened an office in Ann Arbor. We also have two adorable kitties - new kitten Willow and 11 year old Akai.
Kevin has always been a runner, but I started running regularly to train for a Mt. Hood climb. We made it to the summit in April 2008.
In 2009, I ran my first 10K in Ann Arbor and my first half marathon with Kevin in San Francisco. I was addicted to running.
We also love skiing, hiking, camping and basically anything outdoorsy.
October brought the SF Marathon Ambassador announcement, and I was thrilled to be selected to rep the race. It's one of my favorites, not to mention the very first 5K and half marathon I ever ran.
And that's where I am. I have fun with endurance sports, skiing, hiking and love any active pursuit. I love the runners high and feeling the fatigue of a great workout. Here's to enjoying an active life and feeling great!

Your story is so awesome! It's crazy you never got into working out until college! My story is similar:) AND, I lived in Columbus for a while. You OHIO STATE fans are intense:)
ReplyDeleteHi there neighbor! Nice to 'meet' a fellow runner/blogger in San Jose! :)
ReplyDeleteExcited to follow your blog & maybe get some motivation to start running myself!
ReplyDeleteHi Paulette,

Anyway welcome to the bay area and the big G.

Hi there - I found you through Paul. I'm another San Josean (??) and I even work in Mountain View (but not for big G). Anyway, look forward to following your blog and have fun in Big Sur -- I did the 21miler as a walk 2 years ago before I started running and loved it.
ReplyDeleteGlad to have you follow and e-meet you! I'm so excited for Sunday especially hearing that you liked it. Can it be Sunday yet!?
DeleteHi Paulette, thanks for visiting my blog! I love your site...it seems like you really like CA. We're thinking of moving from NJ to the San Diego area within the next year. I'm looking forward to running there :)
ReplyDeleteHi Paulette,
ReplyDeleteI love that you are able to train and run with your husband. That is what my husband and I do (although he is faster, and is now doing triathlons), and I know it has been a big part of our successful marriage.
I see that you are doing the SF 1st half Marathon. I love, love, love that race (I've done both the full, and the half over the years, but if I have a choice these days it is the 1st half cause you get the bridge.) Have fun!
Paulette!
ReplyDeleteYou embody the spirit of our GOTRIbal community so much!
After reading your posts, I'm inspired even more and think our GOTRIbal stars would be, too.
Hope to talk with you one day soon and learn more about what is in the future for you (now that the marathon is done!),
Onward and upward, always!!
