Run All The Races

After signing up for too many things last fall, I said I would watch it this year. Well, I failed. I get caught up in the excitement of registering for races for many reasons - lots of friends running, a course looks really cool, or I get a super deal on a race I like - and I sign up for things without thinking through which race is on what date. So once again, my fall race schedule is super packed:

San Jose Rock n Roll Half - October 6, 2013
St. Louis Rock n Roll Half - October 27, 2013
Malibu Half Marathon - November 10, 2013
Berkeley Half Marathon - November 24, 2013
California International Marathon - December 8, 2013

The bright side? This time I didn't end up with a half marathon three weekends in a row! I have to say that even though I feel a little weird having so many races, I also love going to events. The energy and motivation is just so much fun even if I decide to use a couple as training runs.

I've worked out a marathon training schedule that works for CIM while still running the events above. That means I won't be truly 'racing' most of them, but that's ok. San Jose is my goal race, St. Louis follows work travel to Tokyo and is up in the air, Malibu is gorgeous and great hill work, and Berkeley will be fun with friends whether I race or use it as training. I'm pumped about this fall schedule.

Now before all of this, I'm taking on the Jungle Run Half in Los Gatos and then Ragnar Northwest Passage with a bunch of Oiselle Team ladies. The half this weekend should be low key, and I'm planning to use it as a fun run with no Garmin. The race entry was free because I volunteered at Morgan Hill Marathon last year and there is a panda bear medal, so I'll take this as a win win.

I head to Seattle for a weekend of Oiselle fun on July 18 and I CAN'T WAIT! I'll be meeting many Oiselle Team ladies (some I haven't met in real life yet, some I have), hanging out with Karla for a day, and visiting Oiselle HQ for the very first time.  It sounds like a great trip and that doesn't even include the Ragnar relay craziness.

For the relay, this will be my second relay and first time in van 2. I'm runner 11, meaning I won't be done until almost the very end. It should be a very different experience from being runner 3 at Napa last year, and I'm looking forward to the new scenery in Washington. We'll make sure to take some fantastic photos I'm sure!

The panda medal sounds ridiculously cute. You definitely cannot pass on that.

  3. I get excited about signing up for races too. So easy to sign up for so man of them!! I'm also doing RnR SJ, and considering the Berkeley half. I'm running a marathon on 11/10, so just it might be a last minute decision.

Looks like a great fall schedule!!

  4. I'm running CIM again this year. The weather better not suck again. I think I've got about the same number of half marathons for the fall too. They're great training races that make marathon training a little more fun :)

  8. It's so hard not to click that "register" button, isn't it?

  9. I'm running the Jungle Run this weekend too! Should be fun.
I'll also be running CIM in December. I'm hoping to run a 3:50, but I think that's a bit ambitious for me.
    Good luck at both!

  10. I am very similar where I get caught up in the excitement and register for the races... but isn't that what we're supposed to do as runners? I think its totally legit :) Looking forward to all your race caps! You're going to be busy! How many marathons will this be for you now?? So impressive!

    1. It'll be marathon #4 but I've lost count on half marathons. :) And yes you are right - it's legit to get excited as runners. I like that.

  11. You are so ambitious! I love reading your race reports so I selfishly hope you run them all. :) But sometimes it feels good to blow a race off too. Good luck!

I'm heading to seattle this weekend for a little jog around Green Lake, among other things. Again I'll miss you by a few days!

    1. Yep - I've been to Seattle just one time for last year's RnR Seattle Marathon. Loved it!

  13. I'll see you at RnR SJ and CIM then? lol. I just got an email from Sports Basement run group with local races listed and am attempting not to sign up for a dozen of them. heck, even on the run yesterday I was thinking of what races I could do depending how quick I could heal from the IT/foot/knee issues.

How cool that you're doing the Oiselle events! I am loving their clothes. I practically live in their running shorts.

Hope you had a fun time on the Jungle Run yesterday!
