Changing Goals & 15K Fun

The second half of 2013 has been a bit crazy for me due to work, and this past week is no different. You might have seen my post about work travel to Dublin and running the Dublin Marathon, which I was pretty pumped about. Sadly, this trip is now canceled so I'm no longer training for the Dublin Marathon. Perhaps I should have realized this could happen, but it's pretty unusual to cancel after having a flight booked. Oh well, moving on! I'll run it someday, it's still on my bucket list.

For now, it's time to go back to focusing on the San Jose RnR and St. Louis RnR half marathons. St. Louis is the same weekend as Dublin, so now that I'm not traveling for work I'll be keeping my original plans and flight to St. Louis for that weekend. I really haven't been pushing speed work for my sub-2 hour half goal because I was instead pushing distance, but that's ok. I plan to enjoy both races and work as hard as I can, and we'll see what happens. My mileage base is much better than it has been in the past and I'm confident that will help a bit.

Now for the fun part of the post! Last Friday at work we had a 15K run during lunch time, definitely a highlight to the week. I love my company! I didn't want to race it because I knew I had a longer run the following day and a 5K on Sunday, but I still had a great run. The event included a 15K, 5K, and 15K relay (3 people run 5K) to get more people out and moving, and it was definitely a success.

Before leaving for work. I enjoyed dressing in run clothes all day, totally used this as an excuse.

 Runner bib pick up!

Posing with my co-worker before the race. This was her second 5K ever, so proud of her!

Android dude was a highlight of my day. He ran the 5K in that...

Done! New hat swag for finishers.

Last, but not least, the arrival of Ragnar NWP bling on my doorstep ended my Friday. I love receiving unexpected packages, especially in the form of prizes! Our team, Party Like a Flockstar, came in 3rd in Women's open and received the coveted Ragnar Relay batons. Woot!

We got the 'Bronze God' batons. Maybe next year we go for more?

We had an awesome weekend of running and beer drinking too, but I'll save that for the next post. Happy Monday!

  1. Aw, sorry about the Dublin marathon! But now you can work on the sub-2h half goal.

I love it when workplaces organise these things to get employees up and moving - the company I work for recently did a public 15/10/5k run, and 12,000 people showed up; employee registration was free. (I missed it due to the Perth City to Surf marathon the same weekend!)

I'm afraid to ask about the Android fellow and what his costume was made of...can't believe he ran in that! I desperately want him to have had a running cupcake, jellybean, ice cream sandwich and KitKat entourage. ;)

    1. Haha, sadly there was no cupcake, etc entourage! That would have been awesome.

  2. Too bad about Dublin that sounds like a good one. At least you have back up plans with St. Louis. Good luck in getting your Sub 2 Hour half goal.
